Khorfakkan - A Tour To a Beautiful city

KhorFakkan is a coastal town on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. It is approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Dubai's main city. Khorfakkan is a town in Sharjah Emirate and the second largest after Al Ain in Abu Dhabi. This city is also known as Khawr al-Fakkn, Khawr Fakkan, or Khawr Fakkn, is an exclave and port town in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Khorfakkan, a tiny Emirati city on the UAE's East Coast, has a lot to offer visitors. This is an excellent destination for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone interested in seeing the sights of the Middle East.

Khorfakkan is known for its natural beauty, which includes several beaches, lovely hotels and resorts, the famous Hajar Mountain, and an old Portuguese fort (built in the 16th century).

In addition, the city serves as a gateway to the Emirate of Fujairah. It is only one hour away from Fujairah and has a direct road connecting the two cities. Khor Fakkan has many places to visit, and because it is close to Fujairah, it is a bonus to visit some nearby tourist attractions in Fujairah city as well if you book a full-day Khor Fakkan city tour that includes some Fujairah nearby places in your itinerary.

I will take you from Dubai to Khorfakkan and back. Let’s go.

History of Khorfakkan

Historians believe that the Venetian jeweler Gasparo Balbi noted "Chorf" in a list of places on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates in 1580, indicating Khor Fakkan. The Portuguese constructed a fort at Khor Fakkan, which had become a ruin by 1666. The Meerkat's logbook mentions this fort and another, describing "Gorfacan" as a place on a small bay with about 200 small houses built from date branches near the beach. It refers to a ruined triangular Portuguese fortress on the northern side and a fortress on a hill on the southern side, both of which are in ruins and have no garrison or artillery.

TheMeerkat's log also mentions fig trees, melons, watermelons, and myrrh, in addition to date palms. It mentions several irrigation wells with "good and fresh water." One possible explanation for the forts' ruinous state is an invasion in 1623 by the Persian navy under the command of OmaniSheikh Muhammad Suhari. Faced with a Portuguese counter-attack, Suhari withdrew to the Portuguese forts, including Khor Fakkan.

When the Persians were driven out, the Portuguese commander Rui Freire urged the people of Khor Fakkan to remain loyal to the Portuguese crown, and he also established a Portuguese customs office. Long after the Portuguese were expelled from Arabia, the Persians invaded Khor Fakkan again in 1737, this time with the assistance of the Dutch during their intervention in the Omani civil war. According to the German traveler Carsten Niebuhr, Khor Fakkan belonged to a sheikh of Sharjah's ruling family, the Al Qasimi, in 1765.

A map by the French cartographer Rigobert Bonne from around 1770 represents the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf, as well as Khor Fakkan.

Climate in Khorfakkan

Starting in November and lasting through April, Khorfakkan has an excellent environment, with warm, sunny days and cool, low-humidity evenings. The range of daytime temperatures is 18 to 30 °C. Between January and March, rain and tropical storms are possible. The weather warms from May to September, with a high of 55°C in July and August at noon. Evenings are warm, with a low humidity level and a high temperature of 42°C.

Traveling to Khorfakkan

The Sharjah government created a brand-new road that is stunning. Since there are no large trucks or trailers, the travel time from Dubai is reduced by half (from an astounding 90 minutes to 40 minutes), but it is also safer. The 89-kilometer-long road that begins at the Sharjah section of Emirates Road (E311 or Bypass road) has five tunnels. Each tunnel through the rugged Hajar Mountains shortens your journey and makes driving more enjoyable.

The longest tunnel in the Middle East is 2.5 kilometers long and is the longest land-based tunnel in the region. The sand-swept road leading to Khorfakkan allows you to drive straight into Khor Fakkan from Dubai. You could, however, stop at one of the many cafes that line the road.

If you are driving to Khor Fakkan, the two-lane road on each side is smooth as tarmac, so close your eyes and enjoy the silence. We bet you'll be wide awake the moment your car reaches the Hajar Mountain stretch, as the wind will suddenly smell and feel saltier.

Many people believe that the Hajar Mountain Range is one of the world's oldest mountain ranges. They are not particularly tall, but they are rugged and crusted.

These mountains will accompany you along the Khorfakkan sea, and sometimes even inside!

Friday Market

This market has three items that you will want to buy: a) fruits, b) earthen pottery, and c) carpets. The term "Friday Market" is misleading. Many tourists have inquired about it. So, they're surprised that a market can only be open on Fridays? The answer is emphatically NO! It is a stock exchange. If you know how to use a camera, start clicking as the shop laden with different colors of fruits and clay potteries neatly arranged gives you your perfect vacation shot. The shopkeepers are aware of this, which is why they are always smiling and ready for photos.

Bargaining is an absolute must. It's popular among shopkeepers. A great conversation, haggling for your carpet and then enjoying a delicious cup of tea. Almost every vehicle stops here to purchase seasonal fruits.

Some restaurants sell a variety of sandwiches as well as ubiquitous tea. Some of these establishments will serve you an egg wrap in Indian pan-fried bread, which is quite tasty. So, the break at Friday Market is excellent. Just one piece of advice. If you are a tourist, always seek advice from your driver; they are extremely helpful.
